Trail dog hip pack, olive
Stone Hound’s Trail Dog is a simple, reliable and comfortable mountain-bike inspired hip pack made from upcycled bicycle tire inner tubes.
The Trail Dog provides about 2 liters of cargo space – just a little over or under depending on the tubes used – and weighs in at about 9 ounces (255 grams). The Trail Dog was designed around carrying the essentials for a mountain bike ride – like some combination of pump, tool, extra layer, snacks, water, and wallet with a spot to stash your phone and somewhere to clip your keys, and then … whatever else you can stuff in on top of that.
The gear loops on top of the bag, the handle, and the tabs at the ends of the zipper are made from retired climbing rope sheath, while a strand of climbing rope core is used for the zipper pull.
This run of Trail Dogs has olive/black rope accents and olive zipper coil.
As for new materials, Stone Hound’s Trail Dog is constructed with YKK zippers and a metal hook-style buckle on a polypropylene webbing belt.
It seems worth mentioning that Stone Hound’s Trail Dog is nearly impervious to weather and adverse trail conditions, the pack is exceptionally comfortable, and each Trail Dog saves at least two tubes from being otherwise thrown away in a landfill.
Also, with the incorporation of upcycled materials, each pack has its own unique appearance, so you might not get the exact pack in the photos here.
